Singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer Mthakathi (pronounced: (m-TAA-gaa-tee), conjures up music that is undeniably and unflinchingly Rock, but bespeaks a more prismatic World sensibility. "Dawn Drake and her band ZapOte are at the beginnings of a fascinating journey to enthusiastically bridge chasms of cultural and gender disconnect that plagues so much of pop music's body politic. Since the late 1970’s, Peter Frank has been recording and performing at some great studios and venues with many fine musicians...as a freelance horn player and with a variety of great local bands making original music. But this doo-wop, folk- inflected rock ‘n roller is as facile as a guitarist and vocalist as he is on woodwind instruments. Now performing his original songs and supported by Lucky Flamingo, what you get is a fresh, stripped down musical sound straight from the heart of Americana.
